That is, what's the point of Ca.l fans calling Stanford "f.urd"? (Garvin got caught by the censor trying to type that.)
To my mind, "F.urd" makes the same amount of sense as "the college near a BART station" -- not a pointed insult, just demeaning the enemy a bit by refusing to call them by their real name.
