Stanford looked like Manchester City today. The offense in the first half was, as they say in soccer circles, "clinical." When they had a good chance, their passing was spot on. Best I've seen them look in years.
Stanford hosts the next round against UNC Greensboro, which beat Ohio State on penalty kicks. (I haven't looked up the stats of that game to gain a sense of who had the better of the play.) Following the upset of Virginia, Stanford would host the quarterfinals if they get past UNC-G.
My only complaint from today is that the camera set-up at Cagan leave much to be desired compared to some other venues. I looked in on UCLA-Clemson, for example, and the video put you much closer to the action. At Stanford the players appear much father away. As well, the replays were infrequent. (Perhaps I'm too used to football, where you see every play three times or more.) Perhaps better equipment can be used as Stanford advance. Phogge? (As if he reads the soccer threads.)
Numerous seeds fell today: #2 Washington, #4 UVA, #6 Clemson. #8 OSU was dominating the play, but as noted by Spiny, it was 0-0 at half. But one game at a time. UNC-G is likely to be very tough out.
