Quote:Positive tests were high upon arrival to campus with many of these players coming from their hometowns. Once they are on campus and in workouts, the positivity rate has been very low and contact tracing is very possible. Cancelling the season may be the right decision for moral and public perception reasons, but I don't believe the players will be safer.
While positivity rates possibly have been low for players since arriving (honestly, I don't think a majority of schools have been open about what data they're sharing), the players also haven't been engaging in the sort of close contact that (typically) comes with a full-pads practice.
I can't say 100% that you are wrong about what would be safer for players in the aggregate, but it's certainly possible even with a season cancelled for universities to provide a decent amount of resources to players on campus to help reduce their risk of getting covid.
Things like healthy box meals (possibly delivered), express testing, reconfigured social/study areas, etc. aren't necessarily tied to having a season or not.
