BobK knows more than any of us, but I believe I remember him saying we've only lost out on about 3 or so top recruits who were/could be admitted over the past 5 years, so I think part of it is just a question as to whether the approx. 5-10 top 100 recruits eligible for admission to Stanford every year are closer to no. 1 or no. 100.
Nice recruiting post 2006alum. Is Stanford in a slightly down cycle that most every team in every sport goes through at times. Or does Stanford need someone new in the coaching staff to revitalize the recruiting of elite prep players.
Maybe I am too spoiled and should be content with a team that is top 10 to 20 in the rankings for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, one of those recruits that we lost was the #1 recruit in the Class of '15 and the younger sister of one of our current players. We could certainly use her production right about now. Programs like UConn can afford to lose out on a recruiting battle and still be dominant (see: Chiney -- if I recall correctly, UConn was one of her finalists). We don't have that luxury; losing out on an elite recruit that has the academic credentials to get in can set us back for a while -- as the stars align for us much more rarely.
