It was epic and I fell in love with the Big Game and over the years have concluded that the best Big Games were always at Cal. I was traveling with the wrestling team to compete that day at Cal and remember squeezing into the end zone seats. I think we stood the entire game. It was packed. I remember Steve Bartkowski driving Cal a long way down the field before hitting Steve Rivera in the end zone with about 25 seconds left to come from behind. The stadium was going nuts. Then after the kick off Guy Benjamin drives Stanford down the field with a couple of passes and the Langford lines up for a 50 yard field goal - which back then was pretty uncommon. The place was electric. And he kicked it old style - straight on. From the end zone we could see it sail through - and we rushed the field and the Cal side was silent. It was great!
