The common thread between Suh and Christian is that both were lagging in the F Stanford award voting but had monster games on Championship Weekend to open the eyes among the college football viewing public.  Given the early voting, however, it was a little too late for both.  The AP award is clearly more timely than the F Stanford award.

The difference is that Suh played a position that historically rarely merited consideration for a Voldemort, and went up against two players who have. As such it was perfectly reasonable for him to won player of the year which presumably doesn't have the QB/RB bias the Voldemort has. In contrast McCaffrey played the same position as the winner.
