Ah, well.  Hell of an honor though.  They characterize his victory in the voting as edging out Henry.  29 to 16 votes out of 60 seems a bit more than that.

Congratulations Christian and Stanford Football!!!!
Much deserved.

Re: Take that, F Stanford award! - GoodGrief - 12-22-2015

Interesting that the last time that the AP Player of the year was not the Voldemort Award winner was Alabama's Mark Ingram (but it went to Ndamukong Suh, not Toby)

Also, some good quotes from the article about McCaffrey's versatility:

McCaffrey on his secret ability to punt a football: "(In high school) I had one 60 yard punt and I had one negative-3-yard punt."

Shaw on McCaffrey's secret cornerbacking ability: "What is Christian McCaffrey? The answer is football player," Stanford coach David Shaw said in a recent interview. "It's not running back. It's not receiver. It's not returner. It's football player. What do you need for him to do?

"One day we needed some guys to flip over and be on the scout team," Shaw said. "And he flipped over and jumped over at corner. And the back pedal was natural. The plant and dive was natural. The flipping the hips to run deep was natural. He could be phenomenal at that position, too."

Damn that guy can do everything. Hope he doesn't start picking up tees after kickoffs though. I like Tee-Picker-Upper (now that I've noticed him for the first time). Btw, now that I actually notice him (short-haired redhead guy on the sidelines), I see him standing next to Shaw not infrequently during the games. What does he do besides pick up the tee?

The common thread between Suh and Christian is that both were lagging in the Voldemort voting but had monster games on Championship Weekend to open the eyes among the college football viewing public.  Given the early voting, however, it was a little too late for both.  The AP award is clearly more timely than the Voldemort.

Do you Think If Voldemort Voters Were Required to Wait - AncientCityIndian - 12-22-2015

until season`s end to vote and to watch all prospective winners equally via DVR or whatever the Voldemort result might have been different?

This vote tells me some people are having voters`remorse.

I'd be curious to know whether Henry was disappointed that it wasn't him.

The difference is that Suh played a position that historically rarely merited consideration for a Voldemort, and went up against two players who have. As such it was perfectly reasonable for him to won player of the year which presumably doesn't have the QB/RB bias the Voldemort has. In contrast McCaffrey played the same position as the winner.

The article said he is our first winner ever.  True?

The award was first given in 1998, so I'm guessing that statement is true.

Oh.  An award Plunkett was screwed out of.
