These particular rankings aren't necessarily BS, because these rankings are compiled by the same group of people who will have unilateral authority to decide who gets to play for the national championship.  These rankings at least give us some insight into their thought processes.

As far as the SEC goes, I wouldn't be confident as a Stanford fan going into a game vs Alabama.  And I would argue we are the best team in the Pac-12.

You're doing exactly the same thing they are, projecting some perception about how almighty Alabama is (or has been) to determine that they're better than any team in the Pac12.
But they lost to Ole Miss at home and struggled against Tenessee at home. Any other team with the same performance would struggle to crack the top 10.
If you're going to go by perception, I think USC can beat any team in the nation and they would be favoured by Vegas against most. They need to show some consistency, you either do your rankings on Vegas lines, or you do it based on record, but you shouldn't selectively do both.
