It's a small class by design--somewhere between 10-15 commits when all is said and done; that's why there are only six commits right now. For that reason, the coaches have been focusing on quality. Using Rivals' ratings, we've got 4 4-stars and 2 3-stars; our star average puts us at 6th in the nation. I haven't checked recently, but I believe we're second in the conference in terms of Rivals 250 players (SC is way out in front, sadly). So mission accomplished there, so far; obviously, however, there are a lot of recruits that need to come on board.
We lead for Devon Allen, who's an elite sprinter and wideout. We're tied for the lead with UCLA for Johnny Johnson, a top corner from Fresno. We're in second to Miami for Jordan Cunningham, a wideout from Miami (who's rated anywhere between the 6th best wideout in the country to, like, the fortieth.) We're in the top 3 with Wake Forest and LSU for Will Likely, who's another well-regarded corner.
On a tier just below those four guys, we're doing well with Cameron Walker, a corner from Kodi Whitfield's high school, who's either a four-star or a high three-star, depending on who you ask. If we ever offer Kevin Palma, we'll probably get him--again, either a four-star or a high three-star (he's a linebacker). Same for Greg Taboada, who's a TE/OLB from Georgia whose other top offer is a little school called Alabama. There are also a few good offensive linemen being targeted as well--Tyrone Crowder, who's an elite guard; Thomas Oser, who's from Jonathan Martin's school; Delando Crooks, who's from Georgia.
There are also, doubtlessly, stealth recruits a la Michael Rector, Zach Hoffpauir, and Jameis Winston from last year. And it's not exactly inconceivable that Randolph gets admitted and ends up at Stanford anyway. Other than that, everything about Stanford sucks and we should just drop down to FCS. That's assuming a nuclear apocalypse doesn't devastate us first.
EDIT: to be fair, it's not as if the class has worked out perfectly or even especially well. There aren't any super-recruits on our radar, as the scads of guys were last year (this is presuming we aren't stealthily recruiting one, which, given Jameis Winston, is a large presumption.) But still, we should have a very solid class at the end. And the Class of 2014 is potentially special.
