still considering Stanford so maybe his SAT/ACT score wasn't what he was hoping/expecting? Also hearing we're about to offer Kevin Palma who plays LB and could probably play FB too.

Hopefully he'll follow in Aziz Shittu's footsteps.

Actually I thought he already had. Supposedly the staff advised him to consider other options given that his admission status was sufficiently "iffy".

sounds like he's going to Northern Indiana Parochial College unfortunately

Scout also has a new article saying it was a distance issue....hopefully Savaiianea gets in

He was Stanford's first 2013 commit, a whole year and three months ago. Perhaps a bit too early?
Re: Doug Randolph decommits -

yes but grades could still be a factor and he's just saying it is a distance issue. Not sure we'll ever know...

This is terrible news. We have a lackluster recruiting class so far and he was a big commit. You can tangibly sense our program reverting to the pre-Harbaugh period. I hope I am wrong about that but it is making me ill.

Ha! I fully expected a montage of Ryan Burns' awesomeness.

Ryan Burns looks like he will be great. We are fairly thin after him though. Especially if we don't get Saavinea (spelling?).
Re: Doug Randolph decommits -
washingtonismoney - 09-06-2012
It's a small class by design--somewhere between 10-15 commits when all is said and done; that's why there are only six commits right now. For that reason, the coaches have been focusing on quality. Using Rivals' ratings, we've got 4 4-stars and 2 3-stars; our star average puts us at 6th in the nation. I haven't checked recently, but I believe we're second in the conference in terms of Rivals 250 players (SC is way out in front, sadly). So mission accomplished there, so far; obviously, however, there are a lot of recruits that need to come on board.
We lead for Devon Allen, who's an elite sprinter and wideout. We're tied for the lead with UCLA for Johnny Johnson, a top corner from Fresno. We're in second to Miami for Jordan Cunningham, a wideout from Miami (who's rated anywhere between the 6th best wideout in the country to, like, the fortieth.) We're in the top 3 with Wake Forest and LSU for Will Likely, who's another well-regarded corner.
On a tier just below those four guys, we're doing well with Cameron Walker, a corner from Kodi Whitfield's high school, who's either a four-star or a high three-star, depending on who you ask. If we ever offer Kevin Palma, we'll probably get him--again, either a four-star or a high three-star (he's a linebacker). Same for Greg Taboada, who's a TE/OLB from Georgia whose other top offer is a little school called Alabama. There are also a few good offensive linemen being targeted as well--Tyrone Crowder, who's an elite guard; Thomas Oser, who's from Jonathan Martin's school; Delando Crooks, who's from Georgia.
There are also, doubtlessly, stealth recruits a la Michael Rector, Zach Hoffpauir, and Jameis Winston from last year. And it's not exactly inconceivable that Randolph gets admitted and ends up at Stanford anyway. Other than that, everything about Stanford sucks and we should just drop down to FCS. That's assuming a nuclear apocalypse doesn't devastate us first.
EDIT: to be fair, it's not as if the class has worked out perfectly or even especially well. There aren't any super-recruits on our radar, as the scads of guys were last year (this is presuming we aren't stealthily recruiting one, which, given Jameis Winston, is a large presumption.) But still, we should have a very solid class at the end. And the Class of 2014 is potentially special.

Sorry to hear the news. I hope he is admitted and comes to the Farm as, from all I read, he is a great kid and outstanding player. Whatever happens, I certainly wish him the best. I have to admit, however, that after watching the sideline behavior of the current head coach at USB for the past couple of seasons, I cannot fathom how anyone would want to play for the guy.Â

I wouldn't call our class lackluster, though it will definitely be small. Granted you cannot really tell much from youtube videos, but just from looking at those highlights the LBs I would most desire in this class are Savaiinea and Kalambayi. (not to say that losing Randolph would not be a significant loss, but I just think the other two look more explosive to me). Burns, as has been discussed, looks like he has legit big time potential; Cotton is a true sleeper pick, I think. Sean Barton looks like an excellent athlete who could line up at any number of positions. Owusu has excellent size (and great family ties). I would describe the class as small, but potentially great quality.
If Randolph was having second thoughts, either for academic or other issues, best to hear about it now so we can have a spot for one of the other highly regarded recruits still considering us:Â Jordan Cunningham, Devon Allen, Will Likely, Johnny Johnson, or perhaps someone we have not yet offered but can do so now.Â

Oh, absolutely. Don't want to imply it's not a big loss, because it is. We absolutely need another linebacker in the class of 2013 now. I think it's a pretty achievable goal, though. At any rate, it's certainly not a sign that the Idiotface beckons, at NYC implied. At least not on its own...

Randolph committed to Notre Dame today.Â
After weeks of thinking, I have been in contact just recently, Randolph told Irish Illustrated of his call to Booker. I initiated it. He was very excited and even more excited when I told him about how I felt about Notre Dame.

Randolph has two high school teammates either playing for or committed to ND. I couldn't read the Scout or Rivals articles about his stated reasons to switch, can anyone post them here? Is it still the distance?Â
