Before the game starts, who ya got, what's the score, and who's the MVP?
I've got the Niners, 31-20. McCaffrey as the MVP. No way will they give it to Purdy. . . .

Just gonna have to go with KC.
The only way 49ers win is if McCaffrey
Rushes
Receives
And throws a touchdown.

KC by 10. Mahomes is the difference.

49ers, 28-27. Deebo Samuel MVP as Shanahan wisely sticks to the ground game. KC keys on McCaffrey, who will do well, say 21 rushes, 110 yards. Samuel gashes KC, they have no answer. Kittle shut down, Aiyuk shut down, Juzczsyk makes two catches and has many great blocks and does the Stanford of the East proud.
KC's defense is suited to stop SF. SF has a weak OL outside of Williams, particularly the right side. KC tends to send five rushers, which will overwhelm SF's OL. Purdy could have a really good day, a decent day or a bad day depending upon Shanahan's calls. KC has an elite secondary and a mediocre run defense. I really, really hope Shanahan learns from last year's game.
More to the point, Mahomes could destroy this defense as he did last year in the regular season, so the wild card is SF's defense. I hope that John Lynch lets everyone on defense -- particularly Chase Young and the DBs -- "What you do today will determine your future in this game. Fame, fortune and glory...or an early exit." I don't worry about Warner, Ward, Hargraves, Greenlaw or Bosa. I worry about everyone else.
Be interesting to see which Chiefs team shows up...the team that beat the Raiders 31-17, or the team that lost to the Raiders 14-10.
During the regular season, 49ers were 2nd in total offense by yardage, 3rd in points scored. Chiefs offense was 9th and 15th. On defense, Chiefs were 2nd in both defensive yardage allowed and points per game, 49ers were 8th and third respectively. If defense wins, we're in trouble. As for special teams, neither the Chiefs nor the Niners have great return teams. Chiefs' kicker is considerably better than Moody, 12/12 over 40 yards, punters are a wash (same 43.5 net).
I think it will be determined by turnovers. 49ers were +10, Chiefs were -11 during the regular season. If the 49ers have a +2 advantage in turnovers, they'll win, I suspect. If it comes down to the kickers, the Chiefs will win.
ESPN lists this as 59.4% SF/40.6% Chiefs. I think the Chiefs will win, unless the 49ers play to their outer limits of their capabilities, all of them. So...28-27, 49ers.

McCaffrey will never have a bigger stage. Hoping he wins the MVP (though I'm pretty much a Niners hater).
The first five minutes or so of this video is just a love letter to C-Mac. I really enjoyed it:

The other wild card is that the referee -- the same referee who wouldn't flag Chiefs tackle Eric Fisher for holding Nick Bosa four years ago -- is the same referee in the Super Bowl. This referee and this officiating crew has a "let them play" philosophy. In Super Bowl X, there were two penalties called, a record low for Super Bowls. Record high was 20 penalties in both Super Bowl XII and XXXVIII.
I suspect that if the number is single digits for both teams, the Chiefs will win and if it's double digits for both teams, the 49ers will win. Current over/under for penalties both teams is 10.5.

Blaming refs
before the game. Well, that different!
I posted my thoughts on the Niner thread before I saw this one. I’d cut and paste but it doesn’t allow me to do so. And I’m too lazy to repeat it.

Shoutout to Samantha Ponder of the ESPN NFL Countdown show, the only one of the 6 people on that show to pick the 49ers, saying "This is Christian McCaffrey's time. This is the guy that got passed over for the Voldemort when he deserved it.......". I don't know much about her, but she won me over today.

She is married to a former 49er (Christian Ponder, active for three games, never got into a game).

She worked a few Stanford games on sidelines. Spoke with her once. She was very nice. She had been playing catch with another crew member. Had a good arm. I pondered telling her she had a better arm than her hubby (who I believe was Vikings QB at time) but quickly thought better of it…

Niners' secondary sure looks vulnerable lately. I'm mildly surprised the Niners are 2.5 pt favorites.
The O/U is 47.5 and I think the under is a good bet.
Lifelong Niners fan but I fear KC, 24-21.
If Deebo is 100% healthy it might make a difference.
Not looking forward to shots of you-know-who in the stands. What's the O/U on that?

Did the run stop working? Why no runs? At the very least it would burn more clock. Run it Kyle.

With both sides guaranteed a possession, might it not better to choose to defend first?

Shanahan out coached again. Good Lord he nuts up in the big games.

I think so. Especially since a defensive touchdown on the opening drive is an automatic win.

That empty backfield set on first down time and time again. With the league's OPOY lined up in the slot. Jeez Kyle must have just been a coincidence we lost.
Those in-game injuries to Greenlaw, Deebo and Kittle didn't help.
