ESPN's Heisman watch update (12/1/2010)

Colt McCoy 67
Toby Gerhart 61
Tim Tebow 35
Mark Ingram 27
Kellen Moore 24

ESPN's Hiesman watch voting has it as a two man race between McCoy and Toby with Tebow a distant third. Unfortunately McCoy, Ingram and Tebow all have marquee match-ups scheduled for the coming weekend. Even though the SEC duo (Ingram and Tebow) are a distant 3rd and 4th going into the weekend its a safe bet that whomever comes out victorious in the SEC championship game will make up a lot of ground against the two leaders. SEC solidarity, right?

Gerhart's best hope is for all three to have mediocre games with some of McCoy's support swapping to either Tebow or Ingram.

Call it the Lincecum effect. (For those who don't know, Lincecum's main competition for his most recent Cy Young came from two St Louis hurlers who split the midwest vote giving Tim the Cy Young although he did not get the most first place votes.)

By the way, do they invite three or five guys to the ceremony in New York?

Let's live up to what the commentators are saying! I sent out to August last night, I'll try picking up another month tonight. Based on the few responses to my emails that I received, if you can find a Heisman article written by the writer to respond to, you'll do much better than cold e-mailing. Then again it seems like a lot of these voters don't actually have regular college football columns, and perhaps these are the ones most in need of some Toby enlightenment.

I emphasized that Toby wouldn't benefit from having an extra game this weekend and asked the voter to make a decision *right now* based on national statistical ranking, consistency, and importance to the team.

McCoy is arguably the second most important player on the team...behind his roommate WR and punt returner Jordan Shipley.
