I wish I could write a wrap up as good as one of Garvin's. Alas, I'm not nearly the writer and I only have a rudimentary understanding of this sport, and this is the first time I watched a women's lacrosse game. When I tuned in Stanford was down 8-10. The Stanford women proceeded to score 7 straight goals and shut the Crimson out for the rest of the game. The Harvard women were hapless on defense and at one point had two players in the penalty box. Stanford had superior speed and just dominated athletically. It looked like the Globetrotters and the Generals out there.Â
I had hypothesized the explanation for the contrast to the earlier part of the game was the adjustment to the cold weather. The better explanation was that Stanford started using their 6 footer (Alex Paplowski) against a vertically challenged Harvard midget player on face offs after goals and won almost all of them. The women's game doesn't have a shot clock so Stanford just played keep away when they went up a few goals with only a few minutes left, with only easy attempts at goals.
Too bad it wasn't a day game during the weekend. It would have been a nice introduction to the sport for Publiette, and I could have blasted All Right Now from my iPhone after each of the goals.
I enjoyed the game and vow to watch more. Does anybody else in CARDboard land have a better understanding of the game and care to share their insight?
