Kelly's French Bakery in Santa Cruz is good. Nice patio area, and it's right next to some winery tasting rooms. But that's on the other end of Santa Cruz, up by Natural Bridges, so it's not as convenient to Aptos and Capitola.  http://www.kellysfrenchbakery.com/

I do like Gayle's a lot, when we're over the hill we stop there regularly.  That's at the northwestern part of the map we're considering, so my wife would like it.  I'm more interested in the southeastern part; e.g., I'd go as far as Pajaro Dunes if Mrs. Mick was up for it.

Stanford's weather and campus locked the deal for me. The Penn campus is among the homeliest of at least 60 that I've visited.  Only Iowa State looked worse.

There's no accounting for taste. What you call homely I find interesting. I would much rather watch a game at the Palestra than at Maples. I enjoyed the mixture of architecture and didn't need wheels to pick up groceries or to sit down for steak and beer.
