IIRC, Loukas practiced at safety in the spring of '10. At the time, the team was unsure of Austin Yancy (his decline from starting as a sophomore has always mystified me, though I suppose an injury that knocked him out for a year contributed) and were still wondering if Michael Thomas could make the switch from CB. Like Lloyd, they probably wanted to take a look at a guy of Loukas' athleticism back there; remember that Loukas occasionally lined up at WR.
But Loukas never wound up playing safety because he switched back to QB over the summer to back up Andrew Luck, beating out Nunes and Picazo.
