If you aren't following the changes to the college football post season you may want to start.  The four team proposal as agreed to last week begins in two years and completely changes the post season landscape - bowls (Chick-Fil-A, really?), scheduling (condensed NY schedule) and the Pac12/Big10/Rose partnership (more impacted years).

(Although I can say that I like the idea of all 6 games being played on NYE/NYD, though it'll be sort of a bummer to potentially miss two if we're in one.)

How the committee will work: 1. The group gathers and decides which two SEC teams will be in. 2. Two undefeated teams from other conferences are rotated in as the committee sees fit, with preference going to traditional powers or those with large fan bases.

If Stanford is in one of those games, I don't really care whether I'm able to watch any of the others.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl is actually older than the Fiesta Bowl -- it started out as the Peach Bowl back in 1968, three years before the inaugural Fiesta Bowl. Dunno how or why the Fiesta Bowl mutated from a junk game that allowed ASU to say it had played in the post-season to an important national bowl, while the Peach Bowl has remained a third-tier Southern regional game.

And a pretty good, traditional bowl.  "Third tier Southern Regional" is too harsh. It is definitely southern and regional, but first tier. Good teams, its own time slot on New Year's Eve, etc.

This is not about the past, but the future. The Georgia Dome sits smack in the middle of downtown of the capital of the South. The football crazy south. Not that hard to figure out.

I agree with those who say the Peach Bowl makes little sense.  I cannot remember a single Peach Bowl game in the past 20 years and I am not sure it ever decided the national title (at least since 1980 where my memory stretches).  Atlanta's population is smaller than it was in 1980 (500,000) and the bowl itself has always been mediocre.  There must have been some back room dealing with the SEC to given them more of a home field advantage.  You don't need more sites than teams and geographically the playoff is already skewed to the south east. 

The Fiesta Bowl probably skyrocketed because of the growth of Phoenix (now the U.S. 6th largest city) and the games it has been been able to stage.  They had multiple title-deciding games pre-BCS (Penn State - Miami and ND-WV in the 80s) and it has continued to put together the best games consistently (Boise - OU, Stanford - OSU).    I can name 10 memorable Fiesta Bowl games without much thought.  I think they could have stopped at 5 sites.  The Cotton Bowl is ok with me.

If the national semi or title is Stanford vs. Ohio State, I doubt suburban Atlanta is going to do anything to enhance the game.  It will only make a difference when it's in favor of the SEC.  Having 3 of the 6 games in the South East is overkill.

Why is this so difficult to understand?  It's not really the old bowl tie-in, it's the venue. They need big stadiums in the south where the weather is reliable (mostly, it was 30 degrees for the Tech-Iowa Orange Bowl in Miami) or indoors.

It's just an east-west split in the south. I'm sure they can keep Pac12 teams more to the west and SEC teams mostly in the east if they are worried about filling venues, although I doubt that will be a problem.

Seems like a fairly logical split to me. Where should that sixth venue be instead of Atlanta?  Birmingham? Tuscaloosa? Auburn? Tallahassee? Knoxville? Charlotte? Jacksonville might actually work.

They obviously aren't looking to the north (Seattle, Detroit, Chicago, New York). Can't say I blame them.
