This has been a strange Fall, with 2 fewer home games for the women than we normally have. Outside of exhibition games, we have 4 home games total before the new year. Last year we had 6. I imagine the difference is that the trip to Hawaii gave us 3 games in 3 days. Anyway, it seems that we have barely seen our team....
....but that changes Saturday evening, when we have a rare home game. The opponent is Pacific.Â
At first I thought that Pacific would be just another weak team for us to practice on before a tough road trip to South Carolina and Tennessee. But Pacific turns out to be a very good team this year.
Consider:
Pacific beat Arizona State in the WNIT last year by 15 points. We bludgeoned our way to a 13 point victory over ASU last year.
This year, Pacific beat Fresno State by 10 points; we beat Fresno State by 11.
This year, Pacific beat Santa Clara by 27; we beat Santa Clara by 35.
We will have a big size advantage, and I doubt they have faced a defense like ours. However, Pacific looks like it might put up a better fight than Gonzaga. I even worry a little about overconfidence against a team like that (maybe WVB against Michigan has me running scared!) They have some three point shooters, they spread their scoring fairly evenly among their starting 5 players. It should be a good game.
