The choke is complete: 52-31.

Same old Kevin Riley. Same old 59ers.

Wake Forest could do that to us tomorrow night.

I\'m not woofing, but I was absolutely rooting against Cal all the way.

As for the game, if that was the pistol offense as it is supposed to be run, UCLA was not even close.  They looked nothing like Nevada did tonight.  UCLA\'s play fakes meant nothing when there was no real threat of a successful run or pass by the qb.  Cal was never really able to stop Nevada but that is a very dynamic offense that is unconventional, so I\'m not sure whether Cal\'s defense is that bad.

Also, if not for Riley, Cal has a very dynamic offense.  It seems that their winning or losing will depend on which of the many hidden personalities of Riley shows up.

Hope our defense rises to the Wake no-huddle triple option and our offense keeps improving and putting up points.  I\'ll be there hoping for some pay back for last year.

Cheers,
Pete F.

Kaepernick and Taua are extremely scary runners to defend against.  UCLA didn\'t seem to have anyone of that level on the field.

1.) Riley is just a true loser.

2.) The Cal defense that dominated Colorado should have done better. Their NFL DC is not too impressive right now.

3.) The Nevada offense is very cool

A poor showing by Cal

Saw Colin K and his Wolfpack get run out of the stadium by a mediocre ND team last year, so I definitely expected Kal to win.

Then again, Kal has become like the Stanford teams of old, capable of beating just about anybody and losing to just about anybody on a given day.

Kevin Riley= Mike Cordova. When he\'s on he\'s pretty good, when he\'s off he\'s horrible.

Thanks to the BCS formula and the Pac-10 brand\'s need for respect and bargaining leverage I routinely hope that the B.e.ars win their non-conference games.  HOWEVER, I have no problem watching C.a.l implode when it happens.  And last night was very entertaining because the C.a.l D was a joke and Riley was clearly not best QB on the field.

For the conference, that game was a disaster.  Nevada dominated the game and never trailed.  Riley was hyped throughout by the ESPN commentators, but he looked terrible. Vereen looked GREAT, but will he be able to stay healthy enough if every D starts by creating game plans to stop him?

Was that just a bad game?  Was the C.a.l D just unable to deal with a running QB?  The Pac-10 just does not have any QBs that are oriented to a run-first scheme now that Locker has been told to stay in the pocket, so maybe C.a.l D was just unable to prepare in time.

Wake and their option COULD do the same type of thing to Stanford, and if that happened I would cling to the notion that everything would/could/should be OK in conference play.

Still my guess is that OC\'s from Oregon, Oregon State and USC are all very excited about the prospect of playing against that C.a.l D.

One good thing that happened for C.a.l?  Did everyone notice how hard Te.d.fo.rd tried to not to yell and scream at Riley?  He looked like he was about to explode, but never seemed to lose it.  My guess is Te.d.fo.rd knows that Riley needs TLC 24/7.

Watching Te.df.ord bottle it all up and try to make Riley feel OK about throwing 3 interceptions was quite entertaining.

Oregon punishes Portland State 69-0.  Oregon State beats Louisville 35-28.  Washington got blitzed by Nebraska 21-56.  Wisconsin slips by ASU by one point, 20-19.  U$C does the job 32-21.

Sounds about right, with the caveat that the close ASU loss means ASU might be better than advertised.  John Clay is supposed to be a stud Wisconsin RB, so the ASU DL should be pretty good.

The UC school I can honestly root for at this point in the season pulls the unthinkable (even if it\'s Houston sans Keenum for much of the game)! And Arizona does its part for the Pac-??. Along with Oregon, Stanford and USC, not such a bad weekend for the Pac and much better thatn it was looking by Saturday afternoon.

With the VaTech showings and Wake\'s collapse, the ACC is looking pretty weak.

ASU playing Wisco close is worrying, as is UA\'s victory over ranked Iowa.  Threet and Foles are dangerous.  Grigsby scored at least twice against Stanford for UA last year iirc.  Oregon is...averaging over a point a minute.

I need to read about the UCLA game against UH.  I knew there was a reason why UH wasn\'t abusing the Bruin secondary.

So the Big 10 is a hollow man\'s conference?  Hmm.  Well maybe Ohio State is legit.  We\'ll see.  Michigan is still an unknown depending on how their version of Vince Young holds up during his freshman season.  Penn State is a threat.  But Iowa?  And Wisco?  Maybe not so much.

Wisconsin is highly overrated. San Jose State, in what was supposed to be a body-bag game, stayed with them until the very end of the game last week.

Have to agree.  Wisconsin has an unimpressive 20 point win at UNLV.  A 13 point win at home against SJSU, and now a 1 point escape at home against ASU.

If a Pac-10 team had the same three game collection, the media would quickly declare that they have found the team destined to finish 8th or 9th in the conference.

However, outside of the Pac-10 this team gets crowned as the 10th or 11th best team in the land.

And they will likely stay in the top 10 for weeks.  Next week Austin Peay comes to Madison.  On Oct 2nd they play at MSU while their coach recovers from his AMI.  And then they play Minnesota at home.

So I think I would predict they will be undefeated going into the Ohio State.  Then Ohio State will beat a Top 10 team, and everyone will declare it was a Quality win.  Ugh!
