Postgame interview w/ Chip is worth watching (linked below). Couple things:
-- The media have boiled down Kelly's assessment of the game to: "Stanford was a little bit better" Well, OK. Seems a bit grudging. At least he wasn't spitting defiance or blaming the refs.
-- I don't know about you guys, but knowing what I know about the less savory aspects of Oregon program in general, I always thought of Kelly as a puffed up little prick who simply had a better idea of how to win.
Watching this video mellowed me. He is much more likeable, human. I can see why kids want to play for him. But back to the first point. At the beginning of the interview he was asked if after watching the game video he would have a better view of what went wrong.Â
Kelly answers:Â "I had a pretty good view from the field"
Reporter:Â "And what's your assesment?"
Kelly:Â "My assessment is:
   Gardner's a good football player
   Stephens is a good football player
   Shane Skov is a good football player
   Trent Murphy is a good football player
   Chase Thomas is a good football player"
Reporter: " But we have good players, too"
Kelly:Â "I know that, but those guys played a little bit better, and I want to give credit to them."
That seems much more generous and philosophical than the simple "little bit better" that makes the headlines.
Worth watching. Short and a viewpoint from the heart of the Oregon braintrust. Also interesting couple of the companion post game bits done by reporters.Â
