I wasn't the only one who thought Carson Palmer had promise.  Jon Wilner covered Palmer for the LA Times at the time and thought he had potential from the get-go.

Well, that settles it then. If Kawakami (I assume that's who you meant, not Wilner) says so with a decade and a half of hindsight, it must be so despite the fact that he seems to have expressed no such opinions in the original article from Palmer's freshman year (included at your link).

Let's agree to disagree on this.  I saw promise from the get-go in Carson Palmer.  I vividly remember watching him play his freshman year and thinking how well he was handling himself. 

Now I like Josh Nunes.  I really do.  He has shown great poise in handling questions coming his way on his starting position.  I felt the need to respond to your post because, notwithstanding Carson Palmer's pedestrian start to his career (which didn't really blossom until his senior year), I saw promise in him that I have yet to see in Josh Nunes.
