There was a debate on Bare Insider about whether it could be merged into the Journalism School. One former editor of the DC said that the demands of putting out the paper were more than a full academic load in themselves...adding that in his experience all the J-school interns he'd supervised were wussies who just didn't want to work that hard.
The suggestion was made about becoming all electronic, but it was noted that print ads are (relatively) lucrative but online ad revenue is miniscule in comparison.Â
One note: when I was out there in February, it surprised (and pleased) me to see the Stanford Daily out in newstands in Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Not so pleasing was to see that the old Tressider scene-- lots of people sitting outdoors, eating, drinking coffee and reading the Daily-- are pretty much gone. Had trouble even finding a Daily so I, at least, could keep the tradition alive. At Tressider. Crossroads of the world. Go figure.
Hmmm. Maybe Ike's is the new crossroads of the world.
