It\'s four pages and pretty well-written.  The details laid out therein certainly never made it to mainstream press in their entirety, and I find myself pretty sympathetic.  Birds of a feather stick together...and those who lie with dogs will rise with fleas.

I read that this morning.  I basically agree with you, but at best the guy has a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people and telling the wrong story about it.

I\'d say the article is extremely well-written.  And Masoli does come out looking way better than I thought possible.

Good luck to the young man at Ole Miss (or wherever he ends up playing his final year of college).

Apparently the "jump start"  Masoli experienced in juvenile hall didn\'t take.    The most charitable of interpretations is this:  All through this story were clear opportunities for Masoli to make better choices.  And at each of those opportunities, he didn\'t.   It could have been as simple as-- when Embry emerged from the room with the stolen goods--  saying " See you, man.  I\'m going out this way" as he walked the other direction.   But at that juncture and many others...always the wrong choice.   At some point doesn\'t it become about the chooser, not just the choices?

He put UO,  certainly the most background-tolerant school in the elite of Div. 1 football,  in an untenable position. No small accomplishment.  Once he pleaded guilty, what could they do?   Even the Ducks have their standards,  low as they may be.    So Masoli goes searching for another school and another clean slate.   Not a bad outcome for a guy in his legal jeopardy.  Maybe this time it really will jump start his life.

P.S. It would be a hoot to see him play in the SEC.   Maybe,  because he was kicked out of school,  that doesn\'t count as a "transfer" ?  So he wouldn\'t have to sit for a year.   If he plays in the upcoming season for, say, Old Miss,  it could be viewed as one of the great system-gaming moments in NCAA history.

I used to be a house advisor to the frat house from which the property was stolen.  I don\'t know anyone of those guys who would agree with the self-serving nature of this SI story.  Instead, they tell stories of much that never came to light.  After all, if they had thought highly of him, they would have dealt differently with the whole episode rather than calling the police.

Funny how often I meet ex-Stanford athletes, and  not once have I ever been disappointed in their personality, ethics, work ethic, etc.  And the funny thing is that I\'ve met athletes, grads from other schools who have been impressive, and almost all of them told me that they were recruited by Stanford, or they wanted to go to Stanford or they admired athletes who attended Stanford.  Funny.
