I'm interested to know how people feel about this game tonight.  Who do you want to and who do you think will win?  Personally, I'm ashamed to say I am ALMOST rooting for Kal.  I really despised the computer love for the Big 12 this year and felt it may have hurt Stanford's NCG chances, Luck's Voldemort hopes, and the Pac-12's standing in the nation.  Hence, I really want the Pac-12 to have a good showing against the Big 12 this bowl season, starting with Kal tonight.

And call me a masochist, but I do enjoy watching Texas fail the past few seasons and would love for it to continue.  To me, it is unfair how a school's location and brand name essentially guarantees it a top 5 recruiting classes EVERY YEAR.  Yet that makes it all the more inexplicable how the school is not a top 10-15 team every year.  I suppose having an elite QB really does matter?  Or maybe the coaches just aren't that good?  I wonder how Stanford coaches, who've turned 3 star prospects like Decastro, Martin, and Fleener into All-Americans, would do with those types of athletes...

At the same time, it is Kal.  So I certainly won't be disappointed if they lose.

The Pac-12 needs some wins.  Stanford Football 2012 would benefit from the Pac-12 getting some bowl wins too.

Texas is the bully in the playground that is far too powerful IMO.  However, it is C...a....l.

This is what I have done in the past.  I will hope C...a...l wins, and will have great sense of conference pride if lowly C.a...l beats mighty Texas.  And yet, if C...a....l does happen to play poorly I will laugh the entire time.

I guess the worst case scenario is that C...a....l actually plays OK, but then loses in the end.  That's not much fun.  Either C...a...l wins or Texas wins big.

I let you off the hook mjf by actually voting for C.al; my Pac12ness taking precedence over my still abiding disdain for all things Oski. Some points:

1) Yes, UT has pegged the hubris meter and any opportunity to reel them back in is valued;
2) Begin the deconstruction of the mythos of RGIII as journeyman QB Maynard throws for 300+ against them;
(I will be pulling for WA over Baylor for the same reason)
3) Elevate the quality of Stanford's comfortable, yet not splashy Big Game win;
4) Conference split of C.al's winning purse will afford $ enough for new speedos for men's swimming.

It's simple. The better that C.al looks the better we look and the sweeter the moment when we beat them.

BTW, it's a gorgeous, even unseasonably warm day in San Diego and we've had no rain for a week so the Qualcomm (er, SnapDragon) field should be in perfect shape. Let's put Longhorn back on the menu.

Ehh...depends on the recruiting service you look at I guess.  Rivals/ESPN had him as a 3-star; Scout gave 4-stars.  2 vs. 1, so I went with 3 stars.  Either way, he's not like the boatload of undisputed 4-5 star prospects that go to Texas.  The day we get a consensus 5-star prospect like Clowney or Barkley...

I will hope kal wins, and will have great sense of conference pride if lowly kal beats mighty Texas.  And yet, if kal does happen to play poorly I will laugh the entire time.

haha, this seems like the right mentality to take-we can't lose either way.  The question is which perspective do you lean towards?  Personally, I lean towards Kal winning just because it provides the more tangible benefits that unclechuck outlined, especially the speedos  ;).  Kal losing primarily serves our own self-interest in enjoying Kal's failures, but I'd argue it does not help the conference in the long run.

But then again, Kal winning may delude recruits into thinking that Kal is close to returning to relevance.  hmmmm.....

I don't think this is the best way of thinking of it. It's not like, of a range of 100 services' opinion, only one had him as a 4-star. 1 of 3 is a pretty significant minority. My guess is that an aggregated opinion is probably the best way to go and I'm sure some internet data jockey will prove exactly that at some point or another.

Remember that it was Texas playing games with us and pulling out of the Pac conference that gave us this monstrosity Pac-12 with Colorado and Utah.  Now in the future we might have to beat SC twice to make it a BCS bowl.  So kal beating Texas would be sweet.
