I know I wrote this in another thread, but K-State--when they have Skylar Thompson at QB--is a pretty good team. In 2019 they were 8-5 with a close loss to Navy in the Liberty Bowl. Last year they were ravaged by Covid and injuries, but they were still 2-1 when Thompson started. And they've beaten Oklahoma two years in a row with Thompson at QB. And they have a very good coach, IMO. Based on what I saw on Saturday, I wouldn't have been surprised to see the Wildcats wear down USC, if they had been opponents.

Thompson is injured again, maybe for multiple weeks, so K-State's record at season's end might not look so glowing. But I see game 1 as a (really) bad game by Stanford, but not a bad loss, if that makes sense.

I can't remember the start time but I'm pretty sure it was at least a day game when we lost to Boston College in Chestnut Hill back in 2002. That was Buddy's first game. BC scored with something like a minute left to cap a comeback.

We also lost game I attended at BC in 1980. Couldn’t remember start time so Googled (it was a night game) and found this Harvard Crimson (why did they cover the game?) article that gave a shrug about Elway and a shout out to the Band: https://www.thecrimson.com/article/1980/...st-played/

Well crafted piece by Lucy Schulte. Gotta wonder what she does today. Stanford (and Elway) more than made up for the disappointing performance in Boston the very next week by burying (yes, burying) Oklahoma in...Norman (day game in Central Time).

It doesn't qualify in this category for two reasons. First, it was a 3:30 EDT start time, and I'd put the limit at pre-noon pacific. Second, it wasn't any worse than the way Stanford performed all season long - probably better than average. BC was a decent team.

I was at that game as well, living up to my moniker then.  Too bad we didn't know each other.

All I remember about the game was that they would blast "Zombie Nation" every time BC scored, which was a lot.
