Given that we have 4 superb frosh talents on the team this year, I went back to check to see how other Stanford stars had done in their first year.
Nicole Powell: Started 29 games, played 34 minutes on average, scored 14 ppg on average.
Candice Wiggins: Started 34 games, scored 17.5 ppg on average.
Jayne Appel: No starts, played 19 minutes on average, scored 13 ppg on average.
Kayla Pedersen: Started 39 games, played 30 minutes on average, scored 13 ppg on average.
Nneka: Started 14 games, played 21 minutes on average, scored 11 ppg on average.
Chiney: Started 35 games, played 24 minutes on average, scored 12 ppg on average.
Amber Orrangel: Started 23 games, played 20 minutes on average, scored 5 ppg on average.
Lili Thompson: Started 33 games, played 25 minutes on average, scored 8 ppg on average.
Kaylee Johnson: Started 28 games, played 24 minutes on average, scored 6 ppg on average.
Alana Smith: Started 0 games, played 12 minutes on average, scored 5 ppg on average.
A fair part of this is the luck of being available when the team happens to need you. For example, Kaylee Johnson came in when we lacked an experienced, rebounding post or she might not have gotten the opportunity in her first year to start all those games.
Similarly, with Fingall and Dodson working out of injuries, Prechtel got a chance to start.
We will see what happens. Never before have we had so many possible starters flooding into the ranks in a single class. I'm sure they will be starting eventually during their careers. It shall be fun to see how quickly and completely they develop.
