You would think that hiring SC’s next coach is going to be deferred to the new AD, so that he (or she) can bring in his own man, so to speak. That could be Meyer, or it could be someone else, or maybe Helton manages to hang on to the job.

Totally agree that, baring some scandal or total meltdown, Helton will not be fired by the interim AD. BC, do you think that the new AD could hire Meyer, with all his baggage, at USC, with all their baggage? I wonder if the new president would allow it, just because of the optics. I am for sure no expert at reading the "Yuk" level of such a hire. We may never know, as Meyer may really want to stay in the booth right now. I am interested in what people on this board think about this possibility. From what you wrote, I gather you think USC might actually do it, if they can?
Those in SoCal still believe that SC job is a destination job for top tier coaches nationwide.
The reality is that none of the Pac-12 jobs are top tier destinations right now for a lot of reasons.
AND USC will be living with investigation and potential probation challenges for years that will hinder recruiting of the best players.
Worse, the 2.5 NFL teams now in the area are already impacting attendance and local enthusiasm for USC. Gone are the days when USC could tell recruits that SC was the best football franchise (college or pro) in the nation's #2 media market.
Still, despite the obvious negatives to the SC job for 2020 and beyond, I am confident that those in the LA basin will continue to claim that every high profile coach is on the verge of taking the SC offer. I do suspect that some high profile coaches WILL express interest in the job, if only to make sure their real target program gives them their best possible offer. ($$$, control, etc.)
The same thing happened the last few times the position was open, and the coaches they ultimately hired were not exactly the cream of the crop.
