Just listened to postgame on the radio...Shaw sounded positively humbled, took nearly all the blame (nearly).  Said that Burns was in there to the block the backside - as many have observed - and noted that it had been worked on during the week.

Notably the broadcaster failed to ask him why he kicked the FG instead of going for it on the 4 yard line.  The broadcasters are generally afraid to ask the tough questions.

I agree a shorter pass probably would have been better.

That being said, JJAW was being covered one on one, so it was a favorable match-up.  Chryst had plenty of time in the pocket.  That should have been a big gain, and would have been but Chryst had an entirely forgettable day today.  I think WIM probably had the right idea.  Make it look like you are going to throw and just run Love.  He has as much of a chance of breaking a big one as Chryst and our receiver had of hooking up on a pass of any length.  Chryst was 9/20 (45%) and his average completion went 8 yards.  Love had 184 yards on 13 caries, and three for over 40 yards.  The probabilities favored Love.

I suppose the way Chryst was throwing the ball, perhaps better to take one long shot downfield and pray, rather than depend on him to complete several passes. I highly doubt if just running Love would have worked, but it couldn't have turned out any worse than what we did do.

Barton is gone for the season, maybe more. Was sitting near a doctor who said he saw the kneecap dislocate on slow-mo replay. Said this likely means the "triple whammy" = ACL, MCL, and patellar tendon. If that doc is right, he may not suit up again and if he does it likely won't be next season. Feel terrible for him.

Maybe not the right kind of doc: patellar dislocation can be without ligament damage, depends on the mechanism (I've witnessed it twice in person at local sporting events). So we can hope.

Yeah. but he wasn't out there throwing picks, gopher balls, and overthrowing wide open receivers on potential TD passes either. So IMO there is plenty of blame to go around.

Best case is an isolated patellar tendon rupture, which would allow him compleante weightbearing in 12-16 weeks, running and football specific training in 16-24, and contact sports in 6 months (or more).

Best case scenario is still a grueling recovery.

I am not an orthopedist, but I do not believe that patellar tendon rupture is common with patellar dislocation; the tendon just gets stretched a bit as the patella dislocates. If the patella did dislocate, the best case I think is still isolated simple patellar dislocation. Treatment is reduction of the dislocation, which usually requires muscle relaxants. Evaluate for fractures and ligamentous injury. May also evaluate for anatomical factors that may predispose to dislocation. Then rehab, strengthen muscles, wear knee brace when return to play (which can be as soon as 4-6 weeks, maybe longer for a football player). Will always be more predisposed to repeat dislocation. That to me is best case scenario.
