It seems more likely that it's the former, but I saw him hitting his third read on plays against UCLA, if he can do it why wouldn't he do it all the time? It's so weird.
Ben Muth's theory was that the playcalling changed: https://twitter.com/FO_wordofmuth/status...2893694976
I suspect it's a combination of factors; it seems like a lot of small changes. For one, it seems like -- even if we aren't fully embracing hurry-up no-huddle all the time -- we're getting to the line with more time on the clock. So instead of a panicky why-aren't-we-snapping-yet there may be more time to survey the defense pre-snap, which might make Hogan more comfortable with navigating the field post-snap.
Second, it seems like the offensive line is playing better. It's possible that, if you're a quarterback who thinks "I'm either going to get sacked or have to scramble fast," then you don't really bother moving beyond the first option because what's the point? By contrast, if you think you'll get time, you'll use it.Â
The Montgomery theory we've talked about.
And, as BobK mentioned in another thread, hopefully Shaw (and we) aren't fooled by the past couple games. It could just be random!
