Interesting how this game started out almost exactly like the USC game. First series by us ruined by dumb penalties, followed by USC/UCLA scoring very easily on their first drive. I was starting to have a bad case of deja vu.Â
After that though, it was the complete opposite of the USC game. All the things that killed us against USC went in our favor today. Offense was sharp with some creative playcalling, Hogan hit open men all over the field, special teams/kicking was solid, no fumbles or turnovers, and relatively few costly penalties (I'm not counting that completely ridiculous block-in-the-back penalty that went against Owusu and negated a beautiful McCaffrey punt return). And the defense dominated. Again. Hope this momentum carries over.
Also nice that ASU lost some of their momentum by losing 2 out of their last 3 -- I wasn't so fond of Graham talking about how much they dominated us in every phase after that game.
