A few years back, the then-brand-new Microsoft store at Valleyfair (across from the Apple store) had a promotion in which the general public could compete with a store geek in searching the mobile web via their mobile device. Contest was based on speed, first to complete their search on their mobile device (via the Microsoft store wireless) won the prize; said prize was a laptop. The point was to prove that the Microsoft device had quicker access than whatever piece of Apple/Blackberry/Google sheeit you had withering away in your pocket.
The promo was stacked against the general public in a hundred ways, but a free laptop is a free laptop. So Mrs. Mick gets in line with roughly two thousand twenty-somethings to have her try at a free laptop.
One of the ways the deck was stacked was that there were six basic searches. So the store employee had performed each of the six searches hundreds of times. Each of the paeans in line were allowed just one try at the search.Â
Mrs. Mick, more than double the age of the whippersnappers ends up winning the laptop much to the admiration of the gaggle of 5'3" people in line who were trying to get this thing? How? Lots of luck, a little preparation. Her iPhone won the battle.
