Think the Ivies do the same for some of their recruited athletes. I do wonder whether some innovation is possible to make the admissions process more recruiting friendly while preserving our academic standards.

I was friendly with a locally-grown high school player a few decades back who maybe didn't quite have the academic chops to get into Stanford.  His family was well off, he went to one of those tony, recognizable Eastern prep schools for a year, and presto...was admitted to Stanford...and has an undergrad and a master's from Stanford as well.  Great player, was all Pac-10,
