Do all of the ridiculous unnecessary defenseless roughness targeting yada yada yada penalties take the fun out of the game for anyone else?

No.  I'm very concerned about player safety.  If us, as mere spectators, have to sacrifice some excitement from the violence of the game to make the game safer for the ones that put their neck on the line, so be it.
