I agree, but he is probably the best Haden will be able to get on the quick. Haden needs a name ASAP ...
Your premise is goofy. Not only would Del Rio not be available quickly (he has a job), but Haden doesn't need anyone quickly either. Firing Daniel Tosh's evil twin has enhanced SC's position among recruits, not detracted from it. A four-star DE moved SC to his top three specifically because they fired Kiff.

They need someone quick. They have 5/6/7 commits. They need 19. One is nice, but they don't have 12 others waiting. Some schools could shrug off one small low talent class, but USC is NOT that school. They must get 19 kids this year. Not just a bunch of 2-star types, they need 4 star people to replace the talent they lose. They have work to do. They also have to get 4, and only 4, to register early. That stuff is complicated. Do you think Ole Ed is going to do that work? Not going to happen. He is not going to be at SC in 3 months. The best thing he can do, for himself, is win a few games. Recruiting will be the next guy's problem.
Del Rio has a job, but so does every other USC short lister. Your premise was they would get a great coach. Any great coach would be employed right now. If they are going to get a great, currently employed, coach to leave their job midseason it will need to be one that can credibly say that USC was too special.
Just wait until the end of the year? I actually hope they wait start their great coach after the season. Then they will be competing against Texas, and the 2014 team will be hopelessly short-handed. I doubt that is the play. They fired Kiff now to get a jump on the process. I expect them to hire someone currently employed. Someone able to explain to their current employer that they had to accept because USC was calling. And someone that can start eating family dinners at recruit homes before X-Mas. Like I said before, my bet is the 2014 coach will not match USC's expectations. If you map it out it just doesn't fit. And if it doesn't fit...Oh sorry that is a line from a different USC football story.
