It is far too early to suggest that the right coach was not hired. Had UC played CSU instead of NU, they would have rolled up 50+ and had CU played the Wildcats instead of the Rams, they would have been hammered. Colorado State is one of the worst teams in west and Northwestern is nationally ranked.
I was not a proponent of hiring SD but in hindsight I think it was an enlightened decision. Choosing Goff to play QB sealed the deal for me. Finally, playing time will be determined by merit rather than seniority.
Of course, it could turn out that MacIntyre is the better coach but we won't know that for quite a while...
P.S. My first choice was James Franklin and my second choice was the Kent State coach who wound up at Purdue.
