Giants had to get under the 40 man limit today. They waived Jose Butto (who was picked up by the Rangers), biggest name. Decent pitcher for the Mets, terrible (and injured) for the Giants.
Former Stanford pitcher Tristan Beck was given his outright release. Injuries did the trick there. He was 5-3 lifetime, 4.08 ERA. Had a 1.69 ERA in 2024.
Giants are at 41, they still need to release one more from the 40 man roster. My guess is either Ryan Walker or Reiver Sanmartin.
The 2027 non-player MLB Hall of Fame ballot has Bruce Bochy, Dusty Baker and Brian Sabean are on it, as are former one-time consultants Bill White and Lou Piniella. Glen Schwarz and Susan Shlusser (ex SF Chronicle) are on the 11 person ballot creation committee. Ted Turner and Joe Maddon are also on the list. Please note, it is extremely rare that more than one person makes the HoF from this particular ballot, and the 2022 rules basically enforce that outcome.
Dodgers are the favorite to retain the #1 free agent, Tariq Skubal, but don't discount the fact that Skubal grew up in Hayward. Hometown kid signing?
Would love to get Joe Ryan, native of San Francisco.
Would you go three years, $45 mms. for Pittsburgh 2B Brandon Lowe and his 35 HRs/95 RBIs?
