I think Hershiser's streak was broken in the first game of the next season? And for some reason I think it was in the first inning against the Reds, although I have no idea who scored or who drove him in. Was Barry Larkin playing for the Reds back then?

Wow, great memory.  Yes, Hershiser’s streak was broken in the first inning of his first game in the following year.  And yes, it was against the Reds, and yes, Barry Larkin scored the streak-ending run with two outs in the first.  Who batted him in?

I was living in LA at the time and used to buy $6 top-deck-behind-home-plate seats at Dodgers Stadium so that I could cheer for the visiting team. The only thing I liked about the Dodgers was their announcers: Vin Scully, Ross Porter, etc. The Hershiser streak that ended the previous regular season was a big deal, and I remember listening to the radio broadcast when the streak was broken. But other than Barry Larkin, who was a wild-a$$-guess because he had such a long career, I don't remember who was playing for the Reds at that time (late 1980s?).
