A lesser publicized reform as part of the effort to combat grade inflation is that honors and other distinctions are no longer going to be based on GPA, but rather on "average percentile ranking".

I wonder how different average percentile ranking will be from GPA ranking for the awards.  I also wonder if this will cause students to select smaller class as the percentage of As could be much higher in small classes given up to 20% +4 As is potentially a lot higher in a class of 10 than a class of 100.
