Ukraine leaks some Shaheds, true. But their air defenses are extremely depleted compared to what the US and allies have in theater.

Embarassing for the US to leak multiple Shaheds at a main USN base imho.

Not "optimal", that's for sure :-). However the enemy gets a vote. The distance from Iran to Bahrain is about 160 miles, allowing for some depth in launcher position.  That mandates a flight time of 1hr, 24 minutes at 115 mph. That should undoubtedly give plenty of time to detect the target. That is question 1. Did we see the Shahed? If not, quite embarrassing. Once we saw it, was it assigned to an aircraft to intercept? If not, why? The answer could be that Iran intentionally fires drones in waves hoping to overload the defense. Possibly they succeeded. Some aircraft might be going off station and not yet replaced, they may be geographically in poor positions because they were engaging other targets (intentionally flown that way by Iran), etc. The US probably doesn't want to be flying its interceptors too close to Iran in order to avoid these Gen 4 aircraft being shot down. Thus there probably is only one layer of air defense occupying the last 100 miles or so of the flight path. If the interceptor fails, there is no second line. This is a big difference between Israel as a target and Bahrain as a target. Israel also has it's "Iron Dome" third level air defense system that can cope with leakers. Bahrain does not.
 
It also may be that the target was assigned to Bahrain's air defense system (if not officially, by default when it became a "leaker"). They have one. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVTPMbyCEKM/ They also have F-16s. They didn't shoot it down either.
