The importance of play calling is almost always overrated. I saw lots of comments saying that play calling became a lot better around the Colorado game through the rest of the season, but that's not the case -- it was just that Kevin Hogan was starting, was better than Nunes and, more importantly, fit better with the surrounding (modest) talent.
If we want a good offense in 2013 -- and to do anything of real significance next year, we'll definitely need a roomier margin of error (and therefore a better offense) -- it'll happen between February and August. That's when the offensive line -- either good or dominant -- will be forged. That's when we'll see replace Stepfan Taylor and the tight ends. That's when we'll finally conjure up some decent wideouts and playmakers. And that's when the coaching is questionable, at least on the wideout part of the equation (or whatever it is that screwed up our wideouts the past two years.)
