I don’t know if this is trivia, but after last night’s bizarre Milwaukee 8-6-2U bases loaded double play that consisted of force outs at home and third base, I was curious if there were more bizarre double play combinations out there.

A's vs. Angels, 2017. Runners on 2nd and 3rd. An A's pitcher (Graveman?) fielded a comebacker, but instead of going to first, he runs at the 3B runner who had broken for home. He tags him out, hops over him, then runs to tag out the runner from second base now sliding into third base, thereby completing an unassisted double play by the pitcher. And the Giants had a 3-1-4-2 DP, 1B (Davis) fielded the ball at the mound, tossed it to the pitcher, who threw it tothe second baseman at 1B (first out), who then threw the ball to Bailey to get the runner at home. Since they started recording DP sequences in 1961, there has never been another one of these.

Here's a good one with the Giants' future manager, Nick Hundley as the A's catcher. A's CF robs batter of HR, airmails it past 1st base, Hundley backing up, throws out runner at second.

As the great Lee Corso often said, “Not so fast, my friend.”

With the SD managerial position opening up, Hundley may become their top candidate.  Given he lives in SD, he may be inclined to accept, if offered.
