Launching from western Ukraine should keep the launchers out of range of any A-50.  They could still enter Russia anywhere along the Ukrainian border, the Sea of Azov, or the Black Sea.  This missile could be launched from Odessa, skirt around Crimea, enter Russia from the Black Sea, and still have more than enough range to reach (say) Moscow.  Even St. Petersburg is within range via that path.

Since they are so fast, I suspect the missiles currently can't maneuver much to hit their target.  But if they could, can you imagine one (or a bunch) being launched as an A-50 leaves its post to return to its base.  The missile would remain out of range of that A-50 but get to the base within a half-hour of the A-50 landing.  If it can pick out the A-50 on the tarmac and hit it, that would be impressive.
