Another opinion question: Best golfer not in the World Golf Hall of Fame?

My nomination is MacDonald "Mac" Smith. Born in Scotland (and always ID'd by a Scottish flag), he learned to golf at Carnoustie, but emigrated to the USA when he was 17 for better golf opportunities. He was the club pro at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey County (coincidentally the first place that Mrs. Mick and I played golf) when future 2x major winner Olin Dutra learned the game.

"Mac" also won 25 official PGA events from 1912 through 1936, most of any golfer who isn't in the Golf Hall of Fame. He finished third in his first U. S. Open in 1910, and finished tied for 4th in the 1913 U. S. Open (won by 19-year-old Francis Ouimet, England's Harry Vardon and Ted Ray finished just behind). Never won a major, but finished in the top five at seven British Opens and four U. S. Opens. He finished 7th in the first Masters, the only one he entered.
