Today I learned that in 1919, an unseasonably warm day in Boston caused a 2.3 million gallon tank filled with molasses to suddenly burst, unleashing a tsunami of molasses that swept through the streets at 35 mph, crushing buildings, killing 21 people, and injuring over 150 others.
