What was the most extreme aggregate run differential in a World Series?  What was special about that series?

My first thought is the 1960 World Series in which the Yankees crushed the Pirates multiple times but lost the Series on Mazeroski’s Game 7 HR in the bottom of the ninth.  I believe it was the first Game 7 walk-off HR in WS history.  And yes, Tony Kubek still has a sore throat. :) 

One other note - while it could be an apocryphal tale, years ago, I read an article about the HR in which it was stated that the part of the Forbes Field left field brick wall over which Maz’s HR flew is behind a bar somewhere in Pittsburgh.

Very impressive.  The Pirates/Yankees 1960 World Series is the correct answer.  What’s amazing is that the Yankees outscored Pittsburgh 55-27, a record both for total runs scored and for the aggregate run differential, and lost.

New York won games 2, 3, and 6 by 16-3, 10-0, and 12-0, respectively (38-3 in aggregate).  However, they lost the remaining games 6-4, 3-2, 5-2, and 10-9 (24-17 in aggregate).
