Babe Ruth had the most home runs in a three year period. The Yankees played at the Polo Grounds from 1920 to 1922, so it was a home stadium for him. His HR totals were 54, 59 and 35 in those three seasons. of the 54, 41 were at the Polo Grounds, of the 59, 32 were at the Polo Grounds. So he had 90 at the PG in a three year span. Most Mel Ott had was 54.

Lou Gehrig's was the first number to be retired.

I thought the first team to wear numbered jerseys was the Yankees as well. Turns out it was the Cleveland Indians in 1916. Scorekeepers, vendors and fans all complained they couldn't tell the players apart. The experiment lasted only a few weeks. The Cardinals tried it in 1923, but Branch Rickey scrapped it, saying it was "embarrassing to the players." The Yankees announced they were numbering uniforms on Jan. 22, 1929, and they were there to stay. Ironically, the Indians followed their announcement, and because the Yankees' first game was rained out, the Indians were the first to wear permanent uniform numbers in a live game.
