Dick Groat was one of three SS that won MVP’s in the 60’s. Who are the other two and in what years.
Who was the next SS after the 60’s 3 to win an MVP?
Maury Wills, Dodgers, 1963(?)
Zoilo Versalles, Twins, 1965
Cal Ripken??
Yes on Wills and Versailles (one of the most unlikely MVP’s). Although Wills was ‘62, when he stole 104 bases. And he didn’t deserve it. All Willie did that year was hit 49 Homers drive in 141 runs and slash .304/.384/615/.999 and win a gold glove. But Willie was so good it was just another year.
Ripken won in ‘83. But one other SS won before him.
.384
.615
.999
The first three that played around that time who came to mind were Ozzie Smith, Robin Yount and Bert Camapaneris - I don't think it was the latter (my dad was an A's fan and I don't remember him woofing about that) so either Smith or Yount?
Robin Yount. 1982. Ripken won in 83.
