I did not have access to the online feed, so hopefully will we hear from people who watched the game. The KZSU broadcast was welcome, but was pretty limited as they had a new announcer.
It sounds like we had an easier time with Gonzaga than some of us expected. It was held in front of a sellout hostile crowd in Spokane, and of course featured the famous Tinkle v. Tinkle billing, with Josylyn's little sister playing for 15 minutes for Gonzaga, and Joslyn playing for 36 for us, with their family looking on.Â
It was a defensive game, with Stanford getting the better of it. We shot 49% (57% from three), Gonzaga shot 25%, and that was the decisive edge.
The most remarkable stat to emerge was that Taylor Greenfield hit 6/8 three pointers and scored a career-high 18 points. Chiney and Joslyn fought hard to score points inside, and Joslyn as often as not went back outside to shoot from three, where she hit 2/4 attempts. She added 4 inside shots and a couple of free throws for 16 points. She also had 3 blocks--she is becoming a shot blocking machine, with 16 for the year so far. Chiney wound up with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Ruef had 10 rebounds.
Amber was guarded very, very closely all night and wound up with 5 assists and 5 turnovers--and went 1/5 for two points. It was clear that Gonzaga made stopping her a high priority in this game. That left Toni a bit more open, and she had 5 assists and 1 turnover and 8 points.
One concern. Bonnie did not play at all, even through everyone got in the game by the end--not sure if she even made the trip? Does anyone have news about her?
