So, Sauls is the seventh NFL lefty kicker invited to the combine.  Previous invites:
Florida State kicker Sebastian Janikowski, 2000
BYU kicker Owen Pochman, 2001
Oklahoma kicker Tim Duncan, 2002
UCLA kicker Justin Medlock, 2007
Wisconsin kicker Taylor Mehlhaff, 2008
Louisville kicker Art Carmody, 2008 (but Carmody never made a 53-man roster)

Left-footed kickers not invited to the Combine who've made a field goal since 2000: Morten Andersen, John Kasay, Joe Nedney, David Akers, Bill Gramatica, Ricky Schmitt, Giorgio Tavecchio, so that's another 7.  But wait, in addition to those, some lefty non-place kickers have kicked a field goal (Frankie Albert was before 2000): Micah Knorr (who is a punter), Wes Welker (who is a wide receiver) and Jamie Gillan (who is a punter).

So that gets us to 15 lefties who have kicked a field goal since 2000. The total number of players to make a field goal during that time frame is 181, making the share of left-footed field goal makers just 8.28%, including 3 who weren't even kickers.

As for all timers on the list: Andersen is second all-time in made field goals. Kasay is seventh, Janikowski eleventh, Akers eighteenth, so despite making 8% of kickers to make a field goal in the last 20 years, they make up 20% of the all-time top 20.

I wonder how difficult it is for a holder to switch sides for the hold, if it is not trivial, I could see a team not going with a left footed placekicker unless they were convinced they were a real improvement over the right footed alternatives
