Gotta wonder about the Cobb trade, as well. I thought he was part of the calvary. . . .

He was, but I suspect Birdsong got into the battle ahead of him and did well. Having six starters was one too many, especially if one of these isn't/may not be ready to pitch at a high level immediately. I am guessing the Giants don't think Cobb will be healthy enough/conditioned enough to help them in the short term. He may be great sometime in September, but the Giants need to pile up wins now or it won't matter.
