I debated whether to post this or not. It is long and probably boring in many parts to non-geeks. That said it does provide insight into the genesis of the HARM and AARGM development. There is a pretty good basic explanation of the HARM seeker. While the video is mostly about SHRIKE, it provides lots of insight into the process of developing, building, and testing anti-radiation missiles.
The video also contains strong "hints" of what we call "electro-politics". These currents are almost as interesting as the technology of anti-radiation missiles themselves. The comments in the video about the HARM program as it was executed "making every possible mistake at least once" is IMO very much from the NOTS/NAWS/NAWC/NAWS point of view, but is not without merit :-). The AARGM development is "too recent" to allow such comments to be made, but the back stories there are even more interesting. Despite all this, somehow a very effective weapon was developed. That is why Ukraine's lack of any success at all in eliminating Russian GPS jamming (at least locally and possibly only transiently) is baffling.
The target discrimination test near the end of the video involving a P-15 "Squad Eye" is interesting and the success of that test against a signal even lower in frequency than a GPS jammer (P band) shows that the HARM is capable in the "low band". https://www.radartutorial.eu/19.kartei/1...48.en.html. Some may remember the shootdown of an F-117 in the Bosnia "war". That event was caused by, among many other factors, the fact the HARM carrying SEAD aircraft were not operating due to weather. The P-18 "Spoon Rest" operates below the supported frequency range of the HARM, but is unable to provide adequate resolution for a firing solution.
